Scarlett Lady has won the 2011 The Roses at Doomben Racecourse last Saturday May 21, 2011, proving to her competitors that she will be a fierce Queensland Oaks contender.
The New Zealand three-year-old filly won the 2011 The Roses ahead of Savannah’s Choice, who finished second, and Divorces, who finished in third.
Scarlett Lady has now won all five of her race starts this preparation, with The Roses being her first in Australia.
“To come over here and do it again against these good fillies is very exciting,” Scarlett Lady’s jockey James McDonald said.
The jockey was confident that Scarlett Lady will handle the step up in distance to 2,400 metres in the 2011 Queensland Oaks.
“No worries at all,” McDonald said.
“Every start she takes me the length of the straight to pull her up.”
Co-trainer Debbie Rogerson had remained quietly confident in Scarlett Lady’s winning chances against the rest of the horse racing field before the race.
“It took us 24 hours to get here and we only got here on Wednesday,” Ms Rogerson said.
“We were pretty confident going into today.”
Scarlett Lady’s training will now be focused on getting her ready for the 2011 Queensland Oaks, which will take place at Eagle Farm Racecourse on June 4, 2011.
“The Oaks is the main issue,” Ms Rogerson said.
