Arabian Gold Geared Towards 2014 Doomben Roses

April 28th, 2014

Trainer David Vandyke has confirmed in-form stayer Arabian Gold will travel to Queensland to contest events over the 2014 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival, and has underlined the Group 2 Doomben Roses (2020m) as the first target upon arrival.

Breaking through for her second consecutive victory in the Group 3 Frank Packer Plate (2000m) last weekend, Vandyke told TVN he could not be happier with the form and results produced by the talented Dubawi filly this preparation, and outlined the course of action to be taken prior to the trip over the border.

“She could not be in better shape; she has actually amazed me in how well she has recovered” Vandyke said of the days following the Frank Packer Plate.

“She will trial at Randwick on Friday week and then got to Queensland for the Roses at Doomben and Blake Shinn will be back on.”

Amassing an impressive record of seven wins and two places from only 16 competitive race starts to date, Arabian Gold produced a particularly strong and consistent 2013 spring preparation; finishing outside the places on just three of ten appearances.

Claiming three-consecutive victories over minor lead-up events, the filly out of Coablo was unlucky to finish second to Guelph in the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) before overcoming poor position to finish fourth in the Group 1 Coolmore Flight Stakes (1600m) and strolling home to win the Listed Ethereal Stakes (2000m) on October 19th most notably.

Returning to the track in typically competitive form in 2014, Arabian Gold finished fifth amongst particularly classy competition in the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) first-up on February 22nd, and while unable to figure in of the Group 2 Surround Stakes (1400m) or Group 3 Keith F Nolan Classic (1600m), returned to the winner’s circle in the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m) prior to her most recent triumph.
