May 16th, 2014

A talented field of 16 plus one emergency has been confirmed to line up for the 2014 Group 2 The Roses (2000m) at Brisbane’s Doomben Racecourse this weekend, offering punters exceptional value in betting markets and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.

Having arguably hit career-best form over her current preparation, Arabian Gold has opened as and maintained status as clear favourite for success in betting markets for the 2014 Roses, currently offered at a quote of $2.20, ahead of market mover Hera ($4), Rock Diva ($10) and Asadauskaite ($11).

Will Arabian Gold claim a third consecutive win at Group level in the Doomben Roses, or will one of her talented rivals find the line in the clear?

1st

Arabian Gold ($2.20)

Claiming seven wins and two places from just 16 competitive starts to date, Arabian Gold has fast shot to the forefront of the three-year-old staying community, and will be particularly difficult to beat from the ideal inside barrier this weekend. Securing a well-fought fifth in the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) first-up this season, the Dubawi filly overcame two disappointing runs in the Group 2 Surround Stakes (1400m) and Group 3 Keith F Nolan Classic (1600m) with impressive back-to-back victories in the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m) and Group 3 Frank Packer (2000m) most recently. Confirmed to be partnered by Adrian Knox jockey Blake Shinn, Arabian Gold poses easily the best chance of success in the 2014 Roses.

2nd

Hera ($4)

A standout performer in notable events throughout the 2013 spring in her native New Zealand, punters have jumped all over an opening quote of more than $7 to register Hera as clear $4 market mover and outright second favourite for success in the 2014 The Roses. Finishing worse than second just once in six appearances throughout spring, the O’reilly filly was particularly impressive when strolling home to win both the Group 2 Eight Carat Classic (1600m) and Group 2 Sir Tristram Fillies Classic (2000m). Allocated the ideal barrier 4, Hera will be partnered by veteran jockey Jim Cassidy and poses a great chance of an upset in The Roses.

3rd

Tinto ($13)

Claiming two wins and one place from 10 competitive starts to date, Tinto is yet to contest a race at Group level, but is in line for maiden success after receiving an ideal lead-up. Returning to the track in positive form this time in, the Red Dazzler filly was unlucky to finish second in the RMA Engineers Handicap (1100m) first-up, and while finishing mid-pack in her next two starts, displayed her class when producing a keen turn of foot to win the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m) last time out. While allocated the awkward barrier 13, jockey Tim Bell has been confirmed to retain the ride on Tinto this weekend.
