Bohemian Lily Primed for 2015 The Roses

May 20th, 2015

Blake Shinn partnered Bohemian Lily to a close second in the Listed Princess Stakes (2000m) at Doomben a fortnight ago and is confident the classy three-year-old is in the right form to go one better in Saturday’s Group 2 The Roses (2000m).

Bohemian Lily has posted two wins and a further three minors over just nine career starts so far and has undoubtedly found peak condition since arriving to the care of Gai Waterhouse this time; running second in the Drummond Golf BM67 (1600m) first-up before taking out the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m) on the Gold Coast on April 25th.

Understandably pleased to have retained the ride on the O’reilly filly, Shinn is confident her run of form is timed perfectly for success in the 2015 Doomben Roses and her major target; the Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2200m) on Saturday week.

“The win of Winx was there to be seen the other day but I think Bohemian Lily has a real sense of timing about her leading into the Oaks,” Shinn told The Courier Mail.

“Every time she runs she makes great improvements and a little bit further in the distance will be just to her liking.

“All along she has been set for the Oaks, while a lot of other hasn’t.

“I couldn’t be happier with her.”

Shinn partnered Bohemian Lily in a strong piece of work on the Doomben course on Tuesday morning, and believes she is primed for success in The Roses.

Beginning her racing career in her native New Zealand, Bohemian Lily finished fifth in the Annie Higgins Maiden (1200m) on debut; progressing to third in the Bayleys Real Estate Maiden (1200m) on October 16th before failing to make an impact in an Ellerslie race over 1400m on November 4th.

Taking out the Fairview Ford Cambridge Maiden (1400m) a fortnight later, the filly out of Bohemian Blues placed a credible fifth in the Group 3 Eulogy Stakes (1600m) before running fourth in the Group 2 Royal Stakes (2000m) in her final New Zealand appearance on New Year’s Day.

The 2015 Doomben Roses final field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
