2016 The Roses Nominations Released

May 16th, 2016

Twenty-nine three-year-old fillies have been included in nominations for Saturday’s 2016 Group 2 The Roses (2000m) at Doomben Racecourse; offering punters exceptional from a betting standpoint and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.

Peter & Paul Snowden are set to launch a multi-pronged attack on Group 2 race after including all of Falkenberg, Self Esteem and Tap This in 2016 The Roses nominations.

Falkenberg has fast stamped herself as a serious Queensland Oaks prospect and carries good form into the 2016 The Roses.

Resuming this time for success in the Hawkesbury Equine Vet Maiden (1400m) on February 25th, Falkenberg ran second in the All Too Hard BM67 (1600m) before returning to winning form in the Schweppes BM67 (1600m) on March 28th.

Luckless run transit when fourth in a Rosehill minor over 1500m on April 23rd, the More Than Ready filly savaged the line for fourth in the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m) a fortnight ago and appears as though she will relish a step up to 2000m in The Roses.

Self Esteem is a proven performer at the distance and arguably figures as Team Snowden’s best chance success in the 2016 Doomben Roses.

Running second in the APN Outdoor BM85 (1900m) on March 12th, the Stratum filly produced a career-best performance to date to finish fourth in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) on March 26th before failing to match the late pace and ninth in the Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m) on April 9th.

Having placed a close second in the Gold Coat Bracelet last time, Self Esteem should relish the Doomben conditions on Saturday.

Tap This has steadily built to the task this time and is poised to back up from a credible performance for fifth in the Group 3 Rough Habit Plate (2000m) at Doomben last weekend.

Look To The Stars will carry winning form into The Roses 2016 and appears as though she will be difficult to beat at the distance and under the conditions of the race.

Winning the Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) and finishing third in the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) through a standout 2015 Brisbane Winter Carnival campaign, Look To The Stars took a couple of races to find form for David Vandyke this time, but charged clear to win the Listed Princess Stakes (1600m) on the Sunshine Coast on April 23rd.

The 2016 Doomben Roses field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
